The Price Of Lap Banding Surgery From The Advice Nurse
If you're reading this, you may have come to the point where your weight has become a problem
, despite everything you've tried to correct it. One possibility to keep in mind is a surgery referred to as lap banding. There are however some things you may want to keep in mind.
First there are a number of conditions you have to meet ahead of time though. The National Institute of Health, or NIH has set up these guidelines for people to be considered for the surgery. You must be older than 18, you must have a Body Mass Index or BMI of 40-80 to start with. It's also worth noting that certain pre-existing medical conditions may exempt you from certain exceptions.
Something else that they look for is that your doctor has worked closely with you on a plan to get your weight down, and that has not been successful.
Because of some of these requirements, others may be interested in looking elsewhere for this procedure. One of the options is Mexico. Although this is a much less expensive option, it does come with some hidden costs. You have to pay for the surgery yourself, which is roughly $8500. Another monetary consideration is the travel costs lodging and your diet.
Something else to consider is your checkups. You many need to make arrangements to return to the place of surgery, or else work with a doctor close to home that is willing to help out. It's advisable to arrange all of that in advance of your trip and make sure it will all work together for you.
The other option is to have the surgery in the US which can cost $14,000. If you consider other costs like surgery costs, operating room costs, lab work, tests, hospital stay, followups, and other costs, your bill can add up fast.
You might find that your insurance company will cover the procedure though. It really just depends on who your insurer is, and how your plan is set up. The best thing is to contact your insurer to be sure. If you have some condition that causes weight gain, this is something insurance companies are more likely to cover.
The good news is that there are a lot of options. The bad news is that there are a lot of options. Consider looking into the insurance situation first. Weight your options. The Mexico option might at first seem attractive but be sure to vett all of the complications.
