The Professionals Guide To The Datalogger

The datalogger is a computerised device that works to log information and then provide it for use at a later date

. They can fit into a wide variety of environments and are common tools for commercial use. But just what is this device and what is it used for in practice?

What is it?

As already mentioned, the device is a tool thats powered by a tiny computer inside of it that can track all kinds of data. The information is logged onto its memory and can then be retrieved and downloaded later on. In many cases they are even available for real time tracking. Real time tracking is where the datalogger is connected to a computer, which could be nearby or in another area. Somebody can then monitor the data thats been fed back, and thats a massive advantage when they are used in sensitive environments where any changes may require immediate action.

The Speed of the Samples

The speed that the samples are sent back to the necessary control modules or memory depends entirely on the model thats bought. There are some that can send back one sample every minute, which is enough for most basic uses. For more precision jobs, such as temperature control, the more advanced models are able to send back up to 500 samples every minute.

Customisation

What makes a datalogger so useful is the fact that it can be customised to suit the specific environment where its placed. Programmers are the ones who will have to customise them though as they can be quite complicated to get to grips with. They can even be programmed to pick up data from multiple channels at the same time.

Practical Use

The practical use for one of these devices can be in a large variety of locations. Temperature controlled warehouses are common locations to find them, but food trucks will also have them implanted as well; especially if they are long haul trucks. The medical industry will also find them to be incredibly useful for preserving medical specimens and organs that are being prepped for medical transportation or use in surgery. Commercial uses tend to warrant the more expensive high-end models.

They tend to be so useful commercially not only because they can transmit so much data its because they are so small. These small devices are practical for fitting into confined spaces, and thats why they are so versatile.
