There are a lot of pros to article marketing as well as a few cons. But in the end, the pros far outweigh the cons, thus article marketing remains one of the best strategies to help you drive lots of free traffic.

The Pros

Free Traffic. Free traffic is the goal of article marketing and it works quite well. This is because article marketing directories will help to showcase your articles on their sites for optimum exposure.

But the great thing about article marketing is that other webmasters can take your articles and post them on their sites provided that they leave your links intact. This way you get free traffic coming from several different directions.

Back Links. Article directories are also excellent ways for you to build high quality back links that will help your website to rank higher in the search engines.

Practice. Your articles do not have to be perfect, even though article directories are toughening up their rules on the quality of the articles which they accept. Therefore article marketing is a great way for you to practice your writing skills so that you can improve. After about a 100 articles or so you will be able to look back and say, "Wow I really have come a long ways!" Believe me, there is nothing more satisfying than being able to look back and see your improvements.

The Cons

Time Consuming. What isn't time consuming these days...especially when it comes to online marketing where every minute counts. But don't get me wrong as it is all worth it. However, you spend your time writing and editing the article, and then you have to take the time to upload it to several different article directories.

Finding Ideas. You may have written a hundred articles or so, but what do you do when you run out of ideas? This is the hard part as it requires that you dig deep into your knowledge-base to bring about more content.

But regardless of the cons, article marketing has for a long time, and most likely will continue to be the best way for you to generate lots of free traffic to your websites.
