The Public Music Disease

The Public Music Disease

There's a new disease in town. It's called the public music disease.

Hey, I like music as good as anybody. I love to jam to loud music in my truck.

I also love I tunes and my I pod.

But there's a time and place for everything. People don't need to hear music every minute of the day, every where they go. It loses its charm when you're constantly force fed music every where you go and many of the songs you do not like.

And they're not just playing it every where, but they are playing it so loud, you can't even talk to the person next to you. You can't even pump gas anymore with out hearing little Richard screaming your ear. No offence to little Richard.

It's every where It's in the grocery stores, dollar stores, gas stations, every store in the mall, every dept store and retail store and it's the same music over and over in every store you go in it's the same songs, playing at the same time in all the stores.

We used to hear the term elevator music with all the classical music playing, which eventually turned into smooth jazz.

And now all of our beloved classic rock has been turned into elevator music and TV commercials. I have coined the phrase, grocery store music because all of the old 80'music has been turned into grocery store music and it's lost it's lost it's charm.

This is really noticeable to those people who work in the retail business.

Think about it! All the old guys that used to run all the companies for all these years have retired and their party boy, pot head off spring are running the businesses now.

Thus all of our cool classic rock is now being played over and over hundreds of time each day until you can't stand to hear it .It's just not professional at all. The music should be kept at a whisper.

I do work inthe public which is why I've noticed this. All of my favorite songs that I used to love have been run into the ground. Now when I hear these on the radio, its just grocery store music to me.

A good word for it is stale, because you can't force feed the same old crap into somebody's ears all day long everyday and still like it.

Steak is great, but if you eat it everyday you'll get sick of it.

I don't like other people deciding what gets pumped into my ears. Sometimes when I go shopping I will wear my I pod and play what I want to hear while I shop. Itreally makes my shopping experience more pleasurable and it drowns out all the loud stale store music. I mean how many times can you hear the same old pukey air supply songs pumped into your ears. You should try it sometime.

So the bottom line is, too much of a good thing is bad thing. Next time you pull into one of those rock and roll gas stations, or go into a store playing music so loud that you forgot what you went in there for, you will remember this article. But of course this only one mans view.

But next time you go shopping you will discover the public music disease.
