Most individuals would agree that Optometry is a very important health profession because of how often an individual uses their eyes on a daily basis. In fact, it was believed to be back in the early 1300's that the first eye glasses were invented.

It makes sense for an individual to feel afraid when they start seeing an eye doctor. This is because it doesn't take a rocket scientist to know how important and how fragile ones' eyes are. Not to mention, pretty much every individual that has eye sight uses it for just about everything during their daily routine. However, there is absolutely no reason for anyone to be afraid of visiting an eye doctor. This is because eye doctors are required to go through an intensive amount of schooling and training before they can even begin practicing in their field. As an eye doctor, the individual is going to have to deal with medication that is oral, topical and sometimes injectable. For this reason, eye doctors have to be trained on how to administer various kinds of medication and how to prescribe it. Furthermore, surgical training is also necessary for eye doctors because there may come a time when surgery has to be performed on one of their patients' eyes.

It is kind of ironic to think about the fact that everyone knows what eye doctors are while no one is really familiar with what optometrists are or what they do. This is because the average Joe is usually not well versed in medical terminology. The next time you take a trip to the eye doctor, you should try referring to them as your optometrist instead.
