The Real Christopher Columbus

The story of the voyage of discovery, is not as cut and dried as it would appear at first. Increasingly, though we do not hear about it much, new evidence is being uncovered which would indicate an alternative story.

The situation is not new. In 1916, Portuguese author Patrocinio Ribeiro wrote a book whose title can be translated from the original Portuguese as The Mysterious Character of Columbus and the Problem of his Nationality.

In 1988, a book was published in Portuguese by Augusto Mascarenhas Barreto. The title can be translated as The Portuguese Christopher Columbus: Secret Agent of King John II. It caused a sensation in Portugal but not much was said of it outside of that country.

More recently, authors Manuel Rosa and Eric Steele published a book entitled Colon: La Historia Nunca Contada (Columbus: The Untold Story). This book confirmed the evidence for the theory that Columbus was a secret agent for King Joao of Portugal. Part of the team's research of fifteen years has shown that Columbus was a member of an offshoot of the Templars called the Templar Order of Christ whose head was King Joao of Portugal.

Strangely, it appears that Columbus himself was complicite in the deception.This is actually, of course,a common occurance in politics and it would imply that deception would have been involved from the beginning in the plans for the voyage of discovery. But it also appears that Columbus wasinvolved, at least to an extent, in decieving history about who he really was.

Until 1892, no one had noticed this strange, deliberate haze around the famous man. This was the year of the quarter centenary of the discovery of America in 1492. The entire country's eyes were suddenly focused on the story and it emerged that Columbus was the hero of a story wrapped in mystery and confusion and that confusion has been growing ever since in spite of many attempts to get a definitive story.

Another book of interest along this line is the novel entitled Codex 632 by Jose Rodrigues Dos Santos. It is readily available in English and the parallels betweenthat book and the most recent research, done after itspublication, are extensive and fascinating.

Who Columbus was and where he came from is a mystery and what we can see is just a glimpse of a very complex man.
