The Reason Nits Are Not Removed By Head Lice Home Remedies

There are many head lice home remedies about. Sadly most are completely ineffective for the eradication of head lice from hair. Anyone with children who have hair infested with head lice will not be pleased to learn this.
Head lice are mainly spread through direct person to person contact. For children they are surprisingly easy to catch as they often have very close contact especially at school. Unsurprisingly this is why lice outbreaks tend to spread so rapidly among school populations. Children sit close, put their heads in contact, try on hats or other clothing and maybe share a comb or hairbrush. Head lice are easily able to cross from one infected host to someone else through such simple actions as these.
These insects are wingless so cannot fly or leap about like many other creatures. However another way they can spread is when they crawl from the hair of an infected person onto the fabric of a sofa, other furniture or bedding. With the ability to live for two or three days away from a human host there is the potential for a louse to then be transferred from furniture to another person.
There are many head lice home remedies that people swear by and lots of these involve ingredients like olive oil or mayonnaise. The truth is these types of remedies are messy, ineffective and a waste of time for one very important reason. The adult head louse has the ability to lay up to six eggs per day and will live for about a month. In that time she will lay each egg which is properly called a nit, and attach it to a hair shaft close to the scalp. She does this so that human body heat from the scalp helps to incubate the nit. Also as soon as the nit hatches it can begin feeding from the scalp immediately.
Smothering live adult lice with baby oil, olive oil and the countless other offerings will likely kill some creatures. However, this is no where near as effective as a proper over the counter head lice shampoo which is designed specifically for this job. After the live adult head lice have all been disposed of,the next vital stage which will completely eradicate head lice is the one many people fail to do.
No amount of washing even with a proper shampoo will remove all the nits from being glued to hair shafts. Simply because these head lice home remedies are ineffective at detaching and removing nits and so they will hatch, mate and continue the infestation.
