The Reasons Why So Many People Whiten Their Teeth

In the last ten years or so the teeth whitening industry has really taken off

. Not only can you get your teeth professionally whitened by your dentist, but you can now buy a whole range of different whitening products from your local stores. So why is everyone so desperate to whiten their teeth?

Well if someone were to ask you if you wanted yellow or white teeth, I'm sure that you would pick white teeth every time. The reason being that they are nice to look at, and they dramatically improve your overall appearance. They also look a lot healthier than stained yellow teeth, which can often occur after years of smoking, and drinking things like fizzy drinks, wine, tea and coffee.

As I mentioned before, it is now possible for everyone to whiten their teeth because there are now so many products being sold over the counter. You no longer have to pay a fortune to get your dentist to whiten them for you. You can simply spend $50 or so on some whitening strips if you prefer, and whiten them from the comfort of your own home.

Whiter teeth will often give you instant confidence in both your personal and professional lives. In your personal life you will feel more confident when you are dating, for example, and in your professional life you will be a lot happier in job interviews, for instance, or when talking to important business clients.

Another major reason why I think people are choosing to get their teeth whitened is because of pressure from the tv, film and music industries. You only have to switch on your TV to see people like Simon Cowell and Jessica Simpson beaming back at you with incredibly white teeth. In fact they often look an unnatural shade of white. However the point is that they make the ordinary viewer feel inferior, and so many of these people will choose to get their own teeth whitened as a result.

This can be quite dangerous because some people will never be entirely happy with their teeth. There will always be people who think that their teeth can be a lot whiter, and will keep bleaching them until eventually they start to damage their teeth in some way. It is not known whether too much whitening can damage enamel, but they can certainly make your teeth a lot more translucent if you overdo it.

So overall I would say that people whiten their teeth mainly because they want to look more beautiful, and they feel pressurized to do so by the various different celebrities who all have perfect smiles. However you should always make sure that you speak to your dentist before you start any kind of treatment, because you can damage your teeth if you are not careful.
