The Redevelopment Of Manchester City Centre

In June 1996 Manchester City Centre was hit by a bomb blast that caused massive physical

, mental and economic distress. That explosion endangered the lives of people, deteriorated the buildings and posed a harsh threat to the economy of that area.

The 1996 Manchester bombings had left the Manchester City Centre into a disastrous and ablaze condition. After that, there has been an extensive work going on into redeveloping the city, making huge offices and buildings in Manchester. An example of this is the Beetham Tower, which is counted as the largest building outside the vicinity of London.

The Manchester City Centre is the main focal point since ages. Over the period of time the city of Manchester expanded around it. If we study the definition of the Manchester City Centre as given by the Manchester City Council, it is a place which lies within the Manchester Inner Ring Road, straddling the River Irwell, and thereby encompassing a small part of neighbouring Salford.

This is not all. The city also provides sight-seeing and recreation centres. One of them is the Piccadilly Gardens. It is a space that provides the viewers, a breath-taking view of the lush green gardens and the beautiful spouting fountains. The city centre also provides an IMAX screen for the screening of latest movies.

The destroyed part of the city was rebuilt, and there have been so many new constructions in the city. Manchester is the home of some of the famous and finest brands of the world such as Marks and Spencer, Selfridges and Harvey Nichols stores. Dean's gate and Market Street are the most famous retail stores of the Manchester City Centre.

Manchester Town Hall is also located here which has all the administrative offices of Manchester. Similarly, the tallest building in the United Kingdom outside London is also situated in Manchester which is known by the name of Beetham Tower.

The thing in which Manchester City Centre has been really successful is its development of Transport Network. It has made many stations such as that at the Piccadilly Gardens and around 5 or 6 stations link Manchester together through the Metrolink Tram Service. Apart from this, there are thousands of buses that are working round the clock to provide efficient transport service. The only problem that people face is to park their personal cars but during the recent developments, plans have been designed to cater this problem too.

They also aimed at constructing such an eye catching 21st Century sphere that can be attractive for all the people ensuring high level of excellence. Further they aimed to redevelop it in such a way that it can ensure reliable livelihood for the people. Thus the EDAW Master Plan worked like anything for the rehabilitation of the City Centre to make it historically, economically and socially more
