The Right Wood Picture Frames For Your Artwork
Finding the right wood picture frame for your art can be as much of a challenge as creating that art in the first place
. Wood picture frames may compliment the art being displayed, or may contrast with it; sometimes, a wood frame can be part of the artwork itself. In any event, there is an incredible range of both standard and custom wood picture frames, and as many reasons for choosing one over another.
Considerations
One of the first issues that comes into play when it comes to choosing wood picture frames is the size of the artifact. Canvases that are of standard sizes are fairly easy to frame; stardard-sized wood picture frames are in abundant supply, easy to find and relatively inexpensive. This kind of wood frame is usually available in a kit, which includes other supplies you will need in order to frame your magnum opus.
If the canvas or art photograph is not of standard size, you'll need a custom wood frame. Since this must be specially made to order, it is not particularly cheap but a custom wood frame can make your artwork truly unique.
The next consideration that comes into selection of a wood picture frame is the nature of the artwork being displayed. This includes not only the subject, but the predominant colors as well. Generally, you do not want the frame to upstage the painting; nor do you want it to clash with the dcor of the room in which it is displayed.
Photos are a special subject. Normally, photos are displayed in metal frames, not wood. However, there are wood photo frames available. Wood photo frames tend to be more minimalist, and are painted in a dark solid color (usually black).
The Background
In addition to choosing the proper wood frame, you'll want to select a color of mat board that compliments the colors in the painting as well. While photos may call for white mat board, a painting can be of any color; the mat board should harmonize with the predominating hues.
Going For Baroque?
In general, elaborate rococo or baroque wood picture frames are out of style today and tend to detract from the picture in any event. The ideal wood picture frame is solid color, with a nice stain. If you want to go a bit fancier, you might consider one with a thin gold-leaf trim running along the inner edge. With the wide diversity of wood picture frames available today however, you'll have little trouble finding just the right one.
