The Rise Of Cosmetic Surgery

As a species, man has always had a yearning for constant physical improvement

. In fact, reconstructive surgery is one of the most ancient of human medical practices. This can be traced to as early as 4,000 years ago, wen skin grafts were already utilized for reconstructive surgical work in India. Although it wasn"t during the enlightenment of the eighteenth century that true progress came, today we have made leaps and bounds in this field.

The 19th century saw two milestones in the field of plastic surgery; the first was an operation successfully performed on a British military officer who had suffered substantial injuries from action to the nose in 1814. The other one came in 1827, when Dr. John Peter Mettauer performed the first cleft palate operation in the US, using instruments he personally designed. It was then that the history of plastic surgery began in the country.

War played a pivotal role in the advancement of reconstructive surgery. The First World War gave physicians scores of patients with severe facial wounds and burns from the massive artillery bombardments and the horrors of trench warfare. Newer weapons such as grenades, mortars and flamethrowers caused new kinds and severity of injuries that were unprecedented in the history of the field. This gave birth to some of the greatest medical minds who devoted themselves fully both to exploring the possibilities of plastic surgery and developing new techniques to ease the burdens carried by the men maimed by war. It was also during this point that surgeons fully realized the influence one"s appearance has on his subsequent lifestyle after the war, and his odds for success in life.

In the United States, the history of plastic surgery owes much to the American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons (ASPRS). No other organization ever existed for American plastic surgeons prior to 1931. A lot of the institution"s works gave rise to a lot of notable developments in the field of plastic surgery including the recognition of the progress and history of plastic surgery by the American Board of Surgeons. It was also the ASPRS members who created the first qualifying exam in the history of plastic surgery in the US. In the years that followed a number of similar organizations sprang up due to ASPRS"s efforts to promote the future and history of the field.

The 1960"s and 70"s set the stage for today"s well-known accounts of plastic surgery. The decades saw a number of plastic surgeons awarded for their contributions to the field and rising to prominence, including the post of Surgeon General, and bagging the Nobel Prize. Then, during the 1990s the industry had another growth spurt. Many innovations not just in plastic surgery but in the overall field of aesthetic enhancement took place in the last couple of decades. Among these were non-abrasive liposuctions, breakthrough skin appearance enhancements and other treatments and procedures that allowed a person to alter his appearance and his body.

Further supporting the advancement of enhancement surgeries, Sono Bello has come up with a number of breakthrough treatments that not only spell better appearance but guarantee safety as well.
