The Role Of The Sponsor

In the internet marketing world we all have sponsors in which our sponsors have sponsors

, and so on and so forth. While many individuals have different ideas or feelings on what the role of the sponsor is, here is my opinion.

They Have a Business Also

Many new entrepreneurs believe that their sponsor should be able to drop everything they are doing to answer a question 24/7. They have a business to build and maintain just as you do. Also think about this, they decided to start a home business for probably the same reason you did! They also wanted freedom to work when they want, and spend more time with friends and family.

The Role of the Sponsor

The role of the sponsor is to give you support and some general direction. The sponsor can give you a few helpful hints on what's working in your industry. I also suggest to the sponsors that they set the expectations up front with your team. I strongly discourage becoming an enabler. You have a business to run just as everyone on your team, there are going to be times that you want to give them some "tough love." While this "tough love" can be hard to swallow, it is the role of the sponsor to be honest and of high integrity.

Your Role in your Business

Now that we have talked about the role, what is your role as a new entrepreneur? Your role is to really become a student of your industry. Look for the answers, educated yourself by reading, watching, and listening. You will find that as you show more initiative that your sponsor will send more valuable information your way, sometimes cutting edge. They know that you take initiative and don't need your hand held through every little thing. Remember "no new skills, means no new money" quote by my friend Andrew Cass.

Time Is of the Essence

We all have the same 24 hours in a day. There is no such thing as time management, only being able to manage what you do with your time. The role of the sponsor is not to tell you what to do with your time, read this book, watch this webinar, or to visit this business. While they can suggest beneficial content, you as the new entrepreneur started your business. Be a business owner and take control of your future. Be respectful of your sponsor's time, and you will find out how much they respect you.
