Despite the fact that in the last 10-15 years, materials such as gypsum were not widely known and accepted even in the professional circles, this type of finishing materials have an increasingly strong position on the market, and also demonstrate significant growth, even under the condition that construction has not recovered after the crisis period. In the next few years, an increase in the consumption of gypsum is expected along with the recovery rate of construction from the financial crisis.

The volume of supply on the Russian market of gypsum stone in 2011 amounted to 9,273 thousand tons, which is 22% higher than in 2010. According to data obtained during the analysis of customs statistics and interviews with market participants, it can be concluded that this product is not subject to the export-import relations. Thus, the Russian market of gypsum stone is composed entirely of products of Russian manufacturers.

The volume of supply on the Russian market of dry building mixtures in 2011 amounted to 2 million tons, which is 6% higher than in 2010. The volume of imports of these products amounted to about 12% of the total market. The crisis has greatly affected the market dry building mixtures in general and for the gypsum in particular. Importers suffered first as the import volumes decreased two times. In the next years, an increase in the consumption of dry building mixtures-based gypsum is expected along with the end of the economic crisis and the recovery of construction. According to market participants, currently, there is a positive environment for development of the market, decrease the shares of imported products, and for a significant investment in the infrastructure of resort areas by the Russian government. The housing construction programs will contribute to the growth rate of the consumption of the dry building mixtures and other building materials.

The volume of supply on the Russian market of construction gypsum in 2011 was 3,683 thousand tons, which is 23% higher than in 2010. Thus, the pre-crisis levels were reached in 2011. It should be noted that the construction gypsum is not subject to any the export-import operations. The crisis has greatly affected the market for building materials in general, and gypsum-based products in particular.

The volume of supply on the Russian market of high-strength gypsum in 2011 was 72 thousand tons, which is 11% higher than in 2010. The results of 2010 showed that the market started to overcome the crisis, and 2011 gave a significant boost.

In recent years, the market of gypsum materials in Russia has been relatively stable and an increase of the market with 10%-15% is expected after the end of the crisis. At the same time, the market of dry building mixtures has suffered a lot during the crisis. However, in the near future, it is expected to recover and start growing.

Currently, there are both Russian and foreign manufacturers, placing their production on Russian market. The Russian market is attractive enough for producers, since private entrepreneurs has not fully realized the benefits of gypsum and gypsum-based materials yet, so in the nearby future, growth of the markets and increase in the competition in them is expected.

A tendency to start regional production, according to experts, will make the market for dry building mixtures even richer. However, new players with unknown brands are unlikely to appear in near future, as they will face very tough competition.
