The Saints Lose Its 13 Game Win Streak To The Cowboys

Tony Romo and the Dallas Cowboys defeated the Saints in the Louisiana Superdome

, while the home team fans watched in disbelief as New Orleans 13-game win streak came to an end. Saints fans, accustomed to this seasons impressive comebacks, were hoping that Drew Brees and his men would repeat last weeks feat. All though the Saints came back from a 24-3 score in the third quarter, they just couldnt catch up with a Dallas team that played its cards well to win 24-17.

Saints quarter back Drew Brees had a regular game, completing 29 of 45 attempts, and passing for 298 yards and one touchdown. But these numbers dont really give a good idea of what happened in the game. Dallas (9-5) had a strong start in the game. They needed to recover from a two game skid, and thats just exactly what they did, taking an important win against the number 1 ranked team in the nation in front of an excited and an intimidating crowd.

The Dallas Cowboys have not been holding up very well during the last games of the previous season. Just a quick look into the previous three years reveals that they have won 3 and lost 8 of Decembers matches. Head Coach Wade Phillips has had to reluctantly defend his teams poor performance on the final stretch of the season. But it seems that this victory over the Saints might just do all the talking for him. They still have a chance to take one of the wildcards to get themselves into the post-season.

Perhaps the 19-0 record that the New Orleans fans were hoping for is no longer at stake, but truth be said, the Saints still have a great chance to qualify into the Super Bowl and win the National Championship.

Romo threw for a total of 312 yards, including a 49 yard touchdown pass to Miles Austin in the first quarter. But that was just the beginning of Dallas early game domination. The Cowboys scored in their second possession with a 3 yard run by Marion Barber to take a 14-0 lead. Then Barber repeated in the 3rd quarter with a 2 yard run. Before Halftime, the only response from the Saints came from Garret Hardleys 34 yard field goal.

But then came one of the best offensive squads in the League. The Saints were almost able to pull off just one more spectacular comeback. First, Mike Bells 1 yard run made it 24-10. Brees then followed up with a seven-play, and 7 yard touchdown pass to Lance Moore with a little over 8 minutes left in the game. It was now up to the Saints defense to hold the Cowboys and regain possession.

The Superdome crowd went absolutely crazy when Dallas faced a third and 7 in their own 23 yard line. For a moment, when Romo had to ask for a timeout, every Saints fan was thinking that maybe, and just maybe, they could have one more of those comebacks that had save them in the season. But Romo came back to the line of scrimmage and managed to find Miles Austin who completed a 32 yard gain. And New Orleans crowd went silent. The Cowboys managed to set up what seemed like an easy field goal. But Nick Folks kick bounced off, and the crowd once again believed that they were going to be able to repeat their overtime win against the Washington Redskins, which happened two weeks ago under similar circumstances.

But it just was not meant to be. The Cowboys held strong in their defense, and right when they needed him most, DeMarcus Ware came back from last weeks injury and stripped Brees for the second time in the game to seal the matchs fate.
