. Many of us, however, are still watching movies and shows on muddy old standard def sets. Now, if you've been waiting to make the jump with the HD revolution but you don't want to spend a ton of cash and you don't want to spend days researching and trying to find out which set is the best, maybe you should just go ahead and try the Samsung UE65C8000.

So how does it measure up? Well simply put, it's really just one of the best all around flat screens in the forty six inch range. With its plasma LCD screen, it really does look quite good. Really, if you haven't watched television on a nice, big plasma screen HDTV yet, you'll really be knocked flat out by what it's really capable of. Try watching something with a lot of color, something like Rio Bravo or anything else filmed in Technicolor, and you'll definitely be seeing things in a new way.

The great thing about HDTV is really the way the colors look. They're bold and strong, crisp, clear and great to look at, like candy for the eyes. Likewise, the blacks are incredible. They're deep, rich and strong. They're real black, not that faded, muddy, grayish black that you always get from blurry old standard def sets.

And of course this is Samsung here, so it comes with full compatibility for multiple input formats. This means you get HDMI as well as USB. These are basically standard with most sets in this day and age, but welcome nevertheless. HDMI allows you to get the best possible picture quality from your Blu Ray player or from your gaming consoles.

It's plug and play, so you don't need any of those converters you'd have to get back in the day for an SD set. Just take your HDMI cable and put it in the port and you're good to go.

But the really great thing about HDMI isn't so much the picture quality as the compatibility. You can plug just about any desktop, mac or PC into your Samsung UE65C8000 and use the computer as your general purpose entertainment center, streaming Netflix or anything from your iTunes library right into the set.

You'll have fun playing with the USB. It allows you to plug a camera in and use the set as a digital picture viewer, or you can use your iPod with it and turn your surround system into a stereo system. You could even plug a webcam into it for fun if you like.

The bottom line regarding the Samsung UE65C8000 is this: You get great picture on a crisp, clean, flat screen plasma LCD HDTV. The picture quality is as good as it gets, and it's fully compatible. If you want to upgrade to HDTV and you're still on the fence, go with this model and you really can't go wrong.
