San Joaquin non-profit organizations provide relief to residents of northern California

. Many people, unemployed and employed, seek assistance from these community oriented businesses. Residents of the central valley who are in need are able to receive a limited amount of help. There is an alarmingly high number of people that need help which causes stricter guidelines to be enforced.

Many people who reside in northern California are able to provide for their families. These citizens have been able to maintain their positions in their careers and live comfortably when other sectors have gone bankrupt as a result of tough economic times. On the other end of the scale, there are working parents and single individuals who have a very difficult time living week to week. A full-time minimum wage job is not enough to pay for the various insurances required, food, clothing, utility bills, transportation, and so on.

There are a lot of federally recognized charitable organizations in the central valley. However, some of these operating foundations will only make donations to other 501(3)(c) companies because of legal reasons and tax purposes. This reduces the amount of resources people are able to acquire assistance from. Aside from this, options are still available.

However, there are agencies that do help individuals. If budget concerns prevent them from distributing or helping those that need it, their names are added to a waiting list. The Fair Housing Association, for example, at one time had a waiting list of three years. This organization's intentions are good; however, three years is a long time to wait for people that do not have shelter.

Food, a basic need, is available for people who need it thanks to charity. The Emergency Food Bank is a wonderful program providing nourishment on a daily basis to the hungry. As surprising as it may seem, homeless people are not the only one's that take advantage of the food bank. Working people and students suffer through rough times and find it necessary to eat at the food bank's cafeteria as well.

Hospitals tend to fall under the category of charitable organizations as well. Dameron Hospital and Saint Josephs Medical Center, both located in Stockton, provide medical services to area residents. The hospital's themselves are legally classified as 501(3)(c) yet patient's are still financially responsible for services rendered. Occasionally patient's will be referred to a hospital through a medical clinic serving the uninsured. In this case, the patient is referred by a doctor that volunteer's his or her time at the free clinic serving only those without medical insurance. Once it is determined the individual needs medical attention that cannot be offered at their location, a referral to a hospital is written resulting in free services to the patient.

San Joaquin non-profit organizations has made it possible for many low-income and poverty level residents to receive housing, food, and medical care. Sometimes these agencies are taken for granted by members of the community that never need to use the services. It is not uncommon for people to look down on these programs, thinking they mainly serve drug addicts and people who simply do not want to work. People that fall into those categories can be recipients; however, there are many others that have simply fallen into hard times through no fault of their own. Business closures and divorce are two examples that produce need among otherwise capable people.
