The Secrets Of The Celts And Their Celtic Jewelry
When it comes to nature and the mystery and mystique of the world
, humans have always had a fascination with understanding it all. We always want to understand how not only the ancient people looked at the various signs, symbols and designs in nature, but also how it all relates to us in the modern world.
This is especially true when it comes to the Celts and the mysteries that are held within their Celtic jewelry designs. We love to try and understand the power, rituals and traditions held within this beautiful designer jewelry.
The Claddagh ring is probably one of the most recognizable types of this jewelry. Traditionally given as a wedding band, this design is known for three basic meanings. Wearing it on the right hand with the heart facing out signifies that the wearer is not yet attached to anyone.
When a person becomes engaged to another, then the ring is worn with the heart facing in on the right hand. Finally, when this design is worn on the left hand with the heart facing in, the world now knows that the bearer is married.
Overall, when looking at all the varying styles of Celtic jewelry, two Celtic patterns show up quite often, the spiral and the cross. Although there are different versions of how the Celtic cross came into being, one account says that the circle in the Celtic Cross symbolizes eternity and how God's love is endless.
Yet another version says that the Druid stones were phallic symbols and that the cross was carved into these stones in order to hide this fact. Since the Druids worshipped the sun, the circle is also said to represent the sun.
While the Celtic spiral is used often and symbolizes eternity, Celtic knots, with their beautiful patterns and designs, are probably the most often recognized aspect of this kind of jewelry. As with the spiral, the knot represents eternity and being connected, although it's difficult to know for sure exactly what each symbols is for since the Celts didn't leave us any written guide to go by.
Celtic bracelets, rings and necklaces are most often the choice when it comes to wearing Celtic jewelry. Wedding bands and engagement rings are often used, as previously mentioned. When worn as necklaces, pendants are often attached. These pendants often include the various Celtic images, such as the spiral, dragon, cross, serpent or knot.
The great thing about this line of jewelry is that you don't have to be of Irish descent to enjoy the spiritual meaning behind it. Occasions of all sorts can be made even more special when aided by the symbolism of the Celts.
