The Shafik Gabr Foundation embodies an optimistic mission for the improvement of all the lives it servessocially, economically, educationally and medically. Through the work of our dedicated and experienced board members, The Shafik Gabr Foundation provides diversified social services to the community - aiming at a better life with better health care and improved education for those in need.
Vision and Core Values:
The Shafik Gabr Foundation for Social Development is a non-governmental philanthropic organization supporting local initiatives with a mission to promote social development in Egypt.
Since its launch, the Foundation has made impressive strides in realizing its objectives and willcontinue to expand its activities. Improving the welfare of the local community is a high priority on its agenda, with special focus on providing social, medical and educational services to families in need. The Foundation's activities are especially concentrated on the under privileged areas of Mokattam, Mansouria and Greater Cairo. The Foundation also focuses on contributing help to mothers and infants in the Zilzal earthquake area.
The Shafik Gabr Foundation for Social Development was founded in compliance with the regulations of Non-Governmental Organizations Law (No. 84/2002).

Renovation and Development of Rundown Schools:
School functions as a springboard for children and helps give them an essential start in life. That's why the Foundation believes that all Egyptian children deserve well-equipped, modern schools that ensure they have a better future. Today, the Foundation is concentrating its efforts on renovating the schools in underprivileged areas of Mokattam. A survey of the schools in the district indicated that the following schools were the most in need: Al-Sayyida Khadiga, Ali Ibn Ali Taleb, Tarek Ibn Ziyad and Ammar Ibn Yasser. The schools had classrooms with no blackboards, broken desks, missing or shattered windowpanes, dirty and peeling paint, badly maintained and dirty bathrooms, no clean drinking water and neglected playgrounds with piles of garbage. Since then, a total overall facelift and renovation of the schools has been completed. This involved repainting buildings and classrooms and the redecoration of playgrounds and recreational areas. It also included new environmental-friendly blackboards, desks, windowpanes, drapes, flooring, carpentry and plumbing - and the provision of water coolers to ensure students have access to clean drinking water.
Upgrading School Theaters and Libraries:
The development and empowerment of the students is at the core of the Foundation's mission. To help achieve that goal, the renovation of Ali Ibn Abi Taleb Elementary School included many improvements. New school theaters to encourage more cultural and artistic activities, decorative drawings placed on the walls to enhance the children's aesthetic appreciation; and new librarybooks to help boost their creativity and innovation.
Over the past two years, the students have used the new theaters for plays and musical performances. And, the renovated libraries have drawn more and more students to read and enjoy the new books.
Equipping School Clinics and Upgrading KindergartenPlaygrounds and Recreational Areas:
- Equipping School Clinics:
"Healthy minds grow only in healthy bodies", says an Arab proverb. So, it's our duty to provide students with proper healthcare while they learn. That's why the foundation supplied all school clinics with necessary equipment and ensured that they had clean, comfortable beds for the children during school hours.
- Upgrading Kindergarten Playgrounds and Recreational Areas:
Clearing dismal playgrounds of garbage and sewage was an essential task. And, when it was completed, we made sure games and amusements were available so the children could now enjoy playing in these areas. A clean, safe environment for the nursery and lower grades further ensures that students can enjoy the outdoors and learn to interact and share.
Supporting Extracurricular Activities:
As a firm believer in the importance of cultural and extracurricular activities, the Shafik Gabr Foundation organizes trips for outstanding students to museums, libraries, cultural monuments and parks, with students chaperoned by foundation representatives and school officials.The Foundation also organizes sports tournaments for the students to unleash their energies, improve their physical fitness, and to encourage healthy competition between schools. To help get the ball rolling, we're also providing students of the schools with sports outfits bearing their school names, to enhance their sense of pride and loyalty.
Supporting Cultural and Educational Field Trips:
We believe the school curriculum should also be complemented by educational field trips. To help broaden students' intellectual horizons, the Foundation is helping them get out of the classroom and experience more of Egypt'sincredible history and culture. Students have been on trips to the Citadel, the Pharaonic Village, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina Library, and many other museums, parks, monuments and aquariums.
Supplying Medical Services and Caravans:
There is a severe lack of medical and social services in the Zilzal area in Mokattam, with many of its residents unable to pay for medical care even if it existed. That's why the Foundation organized several medical caravans to bring hope and help to the region. These caravans comprised all medical specialties and free medicines were made available to patients in need.
Thanks to our outreach program, we were able to:
Treat more than 40,000 patients in the last two years.
Follow-up on critical cases and those requiring special care.
Complete many surgical operations.
Provide many people in need with free medical assistance.
Treatment of Critical Cases:
One of the most sought goals of the foundation is the treatment of critical medical cases, especially when the patient is unable to pay. Such assistance is vital because it can often transform the future of the patient and support his or her role as a productive member in our society.
