The Shrine Of The Infant Jesus In Nashik

Nashik, also known as Nasik, is known as the 'wine capital of India'

. It is situated alongside the Deccan Peninsula, along the edge of the Godavari River. The River flows through the city giving it a pleasant and soothing climate. Moreover the landscape is picturesque.

Of the Maharashtra Province cities, Nashik is the third largest industrialized city, next to Pune and Mumbai. It is well known as a revered Hindu holy city, as Kumbhmela is performed once every 12 years - one of four cities in India to perform it. Lord Rama is said to have spent his 14 years of exile in Nashik. It is also said that Lord Rama's wife, Sita, was kidnapped by Ravana from Nashik as well.

Apart from being home to various landmarks of Hindu folklore, Nashik also is home to the Shrine of the Infant Jesus. Situated near St Xavier High School, this shrine attracts many a devotee, especially during the annual festival held every February. The only other shrine of this nature is found in Yugoslavia.

This shrine was inaugurated in 1970. Since then it has grown in size and popularity and many people of all faiths come to worship. It is said that if one wishes for something and prays for it at the shrine, that wish would come true. Devotees can obtain medals, novena booklets and pictures from here.
