Of course, you have to take into consideration you financial capabilities. If you can afford to donate your old car and still afford to a buy a newer car, then you are encouraged to donate.

Cars devalue as time goes by. The more you use it and the older it gets, the less its resale value will be. That is why when you are looking into replacing a really old car, it is best to donate it instead. Instead of getting a little money in return for selling it or getting a fractional discount when trading it for a new car, you get to help a fellow American who is currently down in the dumps.
