The Simple Low Cost Way To Decorating Your Living Room
Tired of your current living room design? Want to update it but is afraid of spiralling costs that could burn your wallet
? Since your living room is often the first room that your guests encounter upon entering your home, a great first impression is essential. But re-doing your living room doesn't have to be a huge overhaul project. Here are some tips on how to refresh your living room and save your bank account from certain destruction.
Invite Mother Nature In
Flowers are always a great way of brightening up a boring space. But if you're worried about dengue or the tiresome chore of having to replenish fresh blooms, then go for artificial ones. Or better yet, indulge your creative side by arranging a floral combo yourself! Visit stores like Daiso, Spotlight at Plaza Sing or Mustafa Singapore for affordable choices.
Mix & Match
One reason why your living room looks boring is because you're using the same kind of palette, materials and textures everywhere. Smooth textures usually give off a light feel while textures that are rough or coarse tend to feel "heavier". Hence spice things up with a little contrast if you want to add an unexpected interest to the living room.
Add a Persian rug to your marble floor or pair a boldly printed cushion with your monotone sofa. If you're not a fan of prints, then get a brightly coloured beanbag to set off your darker furniture. Feel free to mix and match with furniture and accessories from other parts of your house as well, but make sure the overall effect is not a jumbled mix of chaos. Remember not to overdo the contrasting effect.
Create an Illusion
Small space for your living room? No sweat. You can create a visually larger space by doing the following things:
1. Hang curtains higher than your window to give the illusion of a taller ceiling
2. Get rid of any furniture that is not a great addition to the overall appearance.
3. Use glass tables (or transparent pieces) so it appears less cluttered
4. Small prints expand a room visually while bigger prints make it look smaller
5. Installing mirrors in strategic spots will also add to the visual spaciousness
6. Paint your living room a light or neutral colour to brighten up the space
7. Let in as much natural light as possible because it makes the room looks brighter, cleaner and of course, larger.
8. Instead of scattering small pieces of furniture throughout the room, stick to a few large but multifunctional pieces to avoid clutter.
Do It Yourself
Who says you have to buy new furniture just to update your living room? Restore tired looking furniture and give them a fresh breath of life with various methods like paint. If you're unsure on how to proceed, do your research beforehand and make it a family project.
Just let your imagination run wild and have fun rejuvenating your living room!
