The Simplicity Of The Floating Floor
The concept of a floating floor has just recently become common but actually it is quite a new technique in installing flooring
. A lot of people are now going into this new type of technique because it is both classy and simple. The concept of the floating floor started way back in the late 1990s when one of the original brands of laminated floating flooring was introduced.
The term laminate is still used by many people to refer to any floating floor they see. Usually, these floating floors come in planks, which are commonly 12x48 in size. The planks can be connected to each other but they are not attached to the surface directly below it. Underneath the planks would be a thin foam underlayment in order to cushion the planks and prevent them from attaching to the sub-flooring.
The underlayment will always be a part of the entire installation process. Originally, the underlayment comes on a roll, which will be spread out before placing down the floating floor. However, currently the underlayment is already attached to the bottom of each plank to make it easier and faster to install. Expansion gaps are always needed when installing floating floors.
The reason behind this is because the floating floors will need some room for them to expand and contract. The expansion gap is where the flooring meets walls, plumbing fixtures, cabinets or other types of floorings. More often than not, the expansion gaps are covered with trim pieces or with baseboard.
