The Sony Ericsson Zylo Is An Impressive New Walkman Phone by:Chris Westley

Sony Ericsson appears to have recently concentrated its efforts on the release of a number of new Smartphones

. However they have also announced a couple of new Walkman phones, which are synonymous with the manufacturer. This includes the Zylo. This is an attractive slider handset aimed at style conscious music and social networking fans.

The Zylo offers internal memory of 260 MB as standard providing a good deal of storage for data such as media files, ideal for those who wished to make use of the Walkman facilities. If extra storage is required the micro SD slot can be utilised by installing a memory card of up to 16 GB. Up to 2000 entries can be stored within the internal phonebook which also boasts the ever popular Photocall feature.

Class 10 versions of both EDGE and GPRS provide the Zylo with its primary methods of cellular network connection in areas with little or no 3G coverage. Access to the Internet is provided courtesy of a HSDPA connection at speeds of up to 7.2 mega bytes per second (along with a HSUPA connection at 2 MB per second). Both Bluetooth and micro USB connections allow the handset connect to a number of other compatible devices both directly and wirelessly meaning a number of tasks can be carried out, ranging from backing up contact info and sharing media files.

The Zylo is equipped with a mid range digital camera boasting 3.15 mega pixels. This operates at a pixel resolution of 2048x 1536 pixels, offering a good level of clarity and detail within still images. The camera can also shoot video as an alternative method of image capture.

The 2.6 inch TFT screen boasts the ability to display up to 256K colours within a pixel layout of 240x 320 pixels. This provides great quality display of on screen images. The screen is manufactured from scratch-resistant materials protecting it from everyday wear and tear. An accelerometer sensor offers an auto-rotate function which means content can be viewed in both portrait and landscape dependent upon the orientation of the phone.

The dimensions of the Sony Ericsson Zylo are 103x52x11.5 millimetres and it weighs in at just 115g. Its slimline profile and light weight make the Zylo a comfortable phone to hold and use whilst remaining pocket friendly. Available in jazz black, chacha silver and swing pink the Zylo also offers appeal to style conscious users who also view their phone as a fashion statement.

A number of impressive features mean the Zylo offers great everyday functionality to a range of users. The Walkman Media player supports a number of music file formats, whilst a stereo FM radio player and a range of pre-installed and downloadable games offer additional entertainment options. Fans and social networking will appreciate applications allowing direct access to both Facebook and twitter, so they can share their thoughts with friends and family in seconds.

Sony Ericsson have come up with a great mid range handset which has all the calls necessary to appeal to its target market, those who like to use their phone as a portable music player and social networking device.
