Xross Media Bar - Before the Xross Media Bar (pronounced 'Cross Media Bar') ever

came to the PlayStation 3, it war cavorting around on the PlayStation Portable.

On the Sony PlayStation Portable, once a category is selected, its options appear below the icon, selectable by pressing on the directional pad. Going back is possible by pressing the left directional button or the Circle or button. Some items have an option ment that can be displayed by pressing the Triangle button.

The XMB is capable of multitasking. This is accessed by pushing the 'Home' button on the 1000 and 2000 PlayStation Portable version and the 'PS' button on the 3000 PSP, while listening to music, looking at photos, etc.

This feature can be used to watch video, look at certain photo, listen to music, and look at the current web page, all while browsing the XMB. However, what is in the background will be cancelled if any item is accessed on the XMB.

Like the PlayStation 3, the background color on the XMB changes periodically. However, it is not as frequent as the PlayStation 3's fortnightly cycle, and has only 12 set colors depending on the current month. Of course, the background color can always be changed or the background can be changed to a picture.

Game Sharing - Some titles for the PlayStation Portable support a feature called 'gamesharing', which facilitates a limited pet of multiplayer features between two PSPs with only one copy of the game UMD.

In this, a reduced version of the game being shared is transfered to the second PSP without a UMD via the first PSP's WiFi connection, it then is loaded into RAM and executed.

Such 'gameshare' versions of titles usually have their feature set reduced because of technical limitations. This is mainly due to transfer times since data for the game must be transfered to the second PSP wirelessly, at a rate of 11 Mbps.

Some popular games allow for gamesharing, including the likes of Metal Gear Solid: portable ops, LocoRoco, and Patapon 2.
