The Sony Xperia S - Design

Unless youve been living under a rock, youll have heard about Sony buying Ericssons 50% stake in their joint-venture

. Sony have now taken the project of becoming number 1 mobile phone manufacturer upon themselves and the Xperia range is their first attempt at making those in roads.

As it stands Sony are someway behind Apple and Samsung who have pretty much ran away with the bragging rights for leading mobile phone manufacturers. Sony have known that if they want to break that monopoly, they have to get their phones just right. It all starts with the design.

From first glance the Xperia S just looks like a Sony phone. If youve ever seen the home screen on a Playstation 3, it looks like that but in hardware. Sony have managed to keep that dark, sweeping yet structured look about everything they do consistent with the Xperia S and my eyes have been completely branded to know what Sony look like. And they look good.

The phone is slightly curved and fits snuggly in the hand. It also hugs the face when it comes to using phone the way Alexander Graham Bell originally intended, with your mouth and ear. The translucent strip at the bottom of the phone also give it a glowing look, which also lights up with various Tron look-a-like colours. Its like having Japan in your pocket with the Xperia S, with simple design yet colours and technology bursting from every nodule.

When talking about design, we must also single out screen-size. The Sony Xperia S has a large 4.3 inch screen, perfect for browsing and no doubt watching films in 20 minute bursts whilst on your commute. It isnt the largest of phones however and it seems every new phone is vying for the spot of biggest phone on the market these days, which is vastly different from the 90s. This makes it a good midpoint phone, for people who want to shop using their phone but dont want to look like they are navigating a satellite whilst doing it. The bridge between tablets and phones is narrowing, but the Xperia S isnt quite the drawbridge yet.

Phones as popular as the Xperia S are likely to come with a SIM lock in place. This means that youll probably be locked to one network whilst using it. This can be extremely frustrating if youve seen another deal that suits you better. You can unlock Xperia S mobile phones which removes this lock allowing you to use any network at any time. Done by simply using an unlock code. These codes are also available to unlock Sony phones of any type and if you are thinking of upgrading to the Xperia S after selling your current model, you can add value to it with an unlock.
