The Starcraft Brood Wars
When the Confederacy seized power over Tarsonis
, the largest Terran colony in the Koprulu Sector, it sparked the beginning of the Starcraft Brood Wars. The Confederacy's system of governing caused great resentment among the people. Arcturus Mengsk, a fighter against the corrupt regime, mobilized a group of revolutionaries to stand up to the Confederacy. The Sons of Korhal, as they were known, came together to liberate the Koprulu Sector.
On Chau Sara, the Terrans home planet, two other threats were emerging. The Protoss, an alien species which had been searching out it's own enemy, the Zerg, believed them to be stationed on Chau Sara. Without warning, the Protoss issued a full-fledged attack on the Terran planet in order to wipe out its Zerg enemy. The Zerg had landed on Chau Sara in order to integrate the Terran species into its infectious race. The Zerg imperative was to assimilate all non-Zerg lifeforms into the Zerg Swarm.
As the Sons of Korhal fought off the Zerg enemy, the Confederacy picked up and left the planet. Sickened by the cowardly acts of the government, Jim Raynor, a Terran Marshall, joined the Sons of Korhal to defend the Terran race against the Zerg. He eventually met Mengsk's second in command, Sara Kerrigan, who would later be captured by the Zerg Overmind.
Fortunately, the Protoss stepped in to fight off the overwhelming Zerg army and worked to liberate the Terrans. When Mengsk heard of this, he ordered Kerrigan to stop the Protoss initiative and thus she was left to buy time for her superior to flee the planet. When Mengsk escaped Tarsonis, left Kerrigan to fall in the hands of the Zerg, and relocated the survivors of the clash, he emerged as the new leader of the Terran race and built a system of rule called the Terran Dominion that would prove to be just as corrupt as the previous Confederacy's.
Unbeknowgnst to Jim Raynor, Kerrigan's death never came - she was captured by the Zerg Swarm and transformed into a powerful psionic force.
Meanwhile, Kerrigan, a new threat to both the Terran and Protoss races, manipulated Zeratul, a Protoss Dark Templar, to kill off the longstanding Zerg cerebrates. The two Protoss factions came together to cripple the Zerg's attack on the Protoss planet of Aiur. Executor Tassadar, a High Templar and leader of the expeditionary force, reluctantly joined with Zeratul, his Protoss adversary, to destroy the Zerg Overmind and free the Protoss race from a Zerg infestation.
With Aiur obliterated, the Protoss were forced to relocate themselves to the Dark Templar homeworld of Shakuras. Then, with the Overmind crushed, Kerrigan siezed control over the Zerg Swarm and emerged as the Queen of Blades.
With no sight of Kerrigan, Raynor turned his energy towards an attack on Mengsk. He worked together with his Raiders to eventually overthrow the Terran Dominion. In order to avoid any true threat on Mengsk's new leadership, he issued mass media that villanized Raynor and labeled him as a terrorist.
