The Strengths and Weaknesses of the Unibind ST1025 Thermal Binding Machine

Unibind is a wonderful way to thermally bind your documents for professional-looking results

. There are several different machines of this type currently available and the largest one is the ST1025. This is a monster of a machine in every sense. It is large, durable, and it can finish off a whole lot of documents at once. However, it does have a couple of things working against it. Continue reading to discover the strengths and weaknesses of the ST1025. Strengths: The ST1025 is perfect for high-volume operations. It has ten heaters, the most of any Unibind machine. Thanks to the device's many heaters, it's possible to bind up to 50 documents at a time. Booklets can contain up to 340 pages. Or, you can use this machine to bind documents in stages allowing you to bind your books as fast as you can put them together. Each heating unit operates independently and will flash a green light to let you know your books are ready. Since the heaters stand alone, you can bind continuously. This machine is compatible with all Unibind covers and spines, including SteelBooks, PhotoBooks, SteelBack spines, SteelCrystal Covers and SteelMat Covers. All of these materials are durable and provide a strong bond for every one of your documents. Like all Unibind machines, the ST1025 requires no warming up before use and it can complete the binding cycle in about 90 seconds. This makes Unibind one of the fastest document finishing methods currently available. The ST1025 comes with a heavy-duty stand on which to place the device. The stand is high enough to serve as a working surface (it's just over 40 inches tall) and it has eight drawers in which you can store all of your Unibind supplies. (It's capable of storing up to 2,400 covers.) Finally, there are casters on the bottom of the stand so it can be moved when necessary. Weaknesses: This unit is rather large and will take up a lot of space in your copy room or office. It's also very heavy, weighing in at over 200 pounds, and it will become even heavier when you store supplies in the drawers. You will need to be sure that you have a corner where you can wheel the machine when it is not in use and a place to put the machine when you need to use it. The ST1025 is the most expensive machine offered by Unibind. You can expect to shell out a few thousand dollars for it. This really isn't the best method to use if you need to bind documents that are longer than 11 inches. The majority of the spines and covers are either letter-sized (8.5" x 11") or half-sized (5.5" x 8.5") so if you need to bind documents that are legal-sized, for example, you should use an entirely different method of binding. The ST1025 is a device that offers a lot of the great features you would expect to find in this type of machine, such as a quick binding cycle, the ability to work with all Unibind covers and spines, and its automatic operation. It's also great that it can bind so many documents at once and offer you storage space. Although this device is pricey and rather large, this is definitely the machine to get if you want a thermal device that can process a lot of documents at once.
