Domaine Kookkal: Geographic Exclusivity

Most vineyards in the world are located between the latitudes 30 to 50 N (Europe, N America..) or 30 to 50 S (Argentina, Australia, South Africa..). Its conventional wisdom that the tropics, due to the high intensity of the sun, low diurnal temperature variation, and heavy rainfall etc are not naturally ambient towards viticulture.

Domaine Kookkal challenges these natural limitations by compensating the disadvantages of low latitudes with high-altitude viticulture. All the disadvantages and challenges of low-latitude viticulture are more than eliminated and compensated by the naturally unique ambience of the environment.

Besides, with the creeping advancement and impact of global warming as well as centuries of prolonged cultivation and viticulture, quality yields in traditional areas risk being stagnant or even-- decline.

High-altitude Viticulture

Going against the grain, Domaine Kookkals unique high-altitude viticulture concept is all set to boost vine produce in terms of overall quality and wholesomeness.

For starters, greater UV-radiation levels at Kookkals high altitudes is instrumental in the grapes developing thicker skins, and consequently higher levels of Anthocyanins (color) and tannins, which results in an overall smoother and less astringent vine produce.

Natural slopes, rocks, boulders, and rich soil enrich the vine with superior natural acidity compared to lower-altitude produce. Good vine acidity is extremely conducive to production of high quality, well-balanced wine with intense concentration, body and flavor. Such wines exhibit vintage qualities best suited for longer periods of aging.

High altitudes also cause vines to develop a much higher content of Polyphenols in the produce. Recent research points that red wines made out of Polyphenol-rich vines work as a natural deterrent against heart diseases.
