The Symptoms of Yeast Infections

Yeast infections are caused by a fungus called Candida albicans

. It thrives in warm and moist conditions so it is most commonly found in the mouth or vagina. The symptoms you may experience depend upon where the infection begins, but there are many commonalities to the infection that will help you to identify it.

The most common symptoms include:

A discharge from the vagina which may have the appearance and color of cottage cheese.

The discharge may have an unpleasant odor.

If you suffer from arthritis, a yeast infection may aggravate your symptoms.

Likewise, if you suffer from PMS, a yeast infection can make your symptoms worse and exacerbate fatigue in addition to muscle weakness or inflammation.

Your immune system may become weakened due to the infection.

In males, a yeast infection may lead to impotence.

You may experience itching and soreness as well as complications involving the urinary tract.

You may experience bleeding and difficulty with sexual activity.

There are of course many other symptoms but in general, the appearance of lesions on the vagina or inside the mouth - which may appear as milky white spots - is a good indication that you have a yeast infection. If this is in conjunction with the discharge mentioned, then there is little doubt that you have a yeast infection.

Understanding The Symptoms Of Yeast Infection

Predominantly, the site of the location of the infection is usually one which provides the conditions that Candida albicans needs to grow; that is warm, moist areas. Yeast infections do also occur in the intestines but are most commonly found vaginally and orally. When the infection is oral, the result is a painful, sore mouth and is common amongst nursing mothers and subsequently, their infants.

We all routinely have tiny amounts of yeast in or on our bodies but it's only when the conditions are such that unchecked growth can occur, that we develop an infection. The earlier any yeast infection is treated the easier it is to rid your body of it and the less likely you are to have repeated episodes of recurrence.
