Carpet installers get paid a rate of installation according to whether your home is empty or occupied. If a home is occupied then the installer will get paid .28 cents per SF. So why are the flooring companies charging to move furniture when the price is already factored into the installation price? This is another markup fee that goes straight into the flooring company"s pocket. Don"t ever pay to move furniture unless it"s a piano or pool table. Even a king size bed is free of charge.

Tack strips are cheap they are about $19.50 for a box of 400 LF at Home. These are the little strips of wood carpet installers put on the boarders of every room to hold carpeting in place. The rip off is when they put this same tack strip at the doorways where new carpet meets a hard surface. Doorways are not supposed to have a tack strip if carpet in a room butts up against a hard surface like tile or wood floors. They are supposed to have a zbar. Look at the pictures below to see the difference. Zbars are way more expensive than a regular tack strip and carpet installers cheat customers all the time by not installing them at the doorways when they are supposed to be installed thus saving the carpet installer money on the installation of your carpet. Zbars hold the carpet in place better at high points of traffic like the door way to a room. Ever see the carpet come up in the middle of a doorway? Look again it"s probably because it was pinned down with a tack strip and not a zbar.
