Alkmaar is great for a day tour as its only a few miles outside of its more popular counterpart, Amsterdam. Alkmaar, considered as the cheese capital of Holland, has something to offer everyone aside from cheese but of course they have plenty of that too. Different museums are found in this city of canals such as a Beatles Museum since John Lennons first guitar was made in this city, the National Beer Museum, City Museum of Alkmaar and of course, the Holland Cheese Museum. The cheese market in Waagplein has garnered in most of the visitors in Alkmaar, being its most popular attraction. And its only open from April to September, when the cheeses undergo a weighing ceremony to the delight of the crowds, so its best to plan a trip in those conditions. The buying isnt done in the actual market though but at the different stalls surrounding the market with different specialized cheeses for sale to individuals. Aside from the cheese, Alkmaar also has many quaint stores, boutiques, restaurants and cafes that are a refreshing take from the more commercialized spots in Amsterdam proper. And after all that shopping, relax in their airy terraces and restaurants, and people-watch.

Amsterdams idea of ideal dining does not only involve a great hit on the palate but on visual pleasure as well. As it were, most places are great for hanging out with family and friends. For those who like a bit of seafood and Thai flavor, check out 't Waepen van Naang-Nuan with great emphasis on their dessert and fresh fish every night. Taking a One-Day tour at Zaanse Schans

Zaanse Schans is a town with an old world charm featuring many important sights in Dutch history and is quite an easy town to take a day trip in, being only 20 minutes away from Amsterdam proper. Here you find many charming trivialities that are telltale signs of the 17th century village that it was such as a cheese factory, a clog workshop and several working windmills, two of which allow visitors in, to provide a great picturesque view of their skyline. The latter gives out free cheese samples for passing travelers. To get to Zaanse Schans, one can take the train going to Koog Zaandjik which will take you to its town proper, after which Zaanse Schans is only 10 minutes away by foot, or one can bike going there. The village is meant to be a day trip however if you want to stay overnight, theres the Hotel Sans Pareil available for you. Dont forget to drop by the Museum Zaans in order to know about the local customs and history of the whole village.
