Take a day drive through Muiden and spend a day at Muiderslot Castle

One of the great historic treasures of the town of Muiden and Amsterdam, the Muiderslot Castle has now been set to its former glory and is prepared to celebrate its 132nd anniversary as a museum this 2010. Muiden means rivermouth and aptly gives a clue to the castles location and Muiderslot was in a good location indeed, it being used as an ammunitions depot during the Medieval Period and as residence to many prominent figures prior to that evident in its collection of medieval arms, painting and armories. The Muiderslot castle was restored back to its original beauty back in 1954 after having been threatened of demolition on several occasions prior before the government and the local town unit stepped in to officially name it as an important historical monument in Amsterdam, and the town of Muiden itself. All of its rooms down to its kitchen are now fully restored to its original state when it was built by the count Floris V. Tourists wanting to visit the town can either drive going to the castle or take a bus at Amstel Station which can take one to Muidens town center every 15 minutes.

What you can discover in Amsterdams Centrum

Centrum, apt to its name, has everything Amsterdam has to bring tourists centralized in one area. Theres the Royal Palace of Amsterdam where Queen Beatrix of Netherlands lives occasionally, rotating around her four homes found around Netherlands. The palace is again open to visitors since early last year, so one can visit the central hall where loyalty constantly walks. Theres also Bloemenmarky, the worlds only floating market which sells mostly flowers. Souvenirs are also sold in the same market for those who want something unique to take home at affordable deals. Next, check out the Van Gogh Museum where this Dutch Painters largest collection of works is found. Aside from the main museum, Centrum also has many museums hidden in its canals, small museums which are kept by private residences and other small organizations also worth the visit. There is also Anne Franks House down the famous Prisengracht 263 which marks the secret room where she hid with her family. A myriad of shops and restaurants are also strewn all over the place so one can relax after a tiring day going about Centrum.

Wine Courses and Workshops at the Amsteltuin Vineyard

Although Amsterdam is quiet a busy village in itself, its good to know that theres an easy escape with a more laidback lifestyle which can be found in the nearby village of Amstelveen. De Amsteltuin or Amsteltuin Vineyard is one of the very few Dutch vineyards existing and is the only one very close to Amsterdam that has different wine-related activities such as workshops and wine courses. Request for a group tour in advance in order to see the full capacity of the vineyard. If you want a sample of their work, arrangements will have to be made prior as Amsteltuin is still in the experimentation stage with some of their wines and grapes. In the more warm-weathered months, one can enjoy a barbecue and buffet from the staff if wished. In the meantime, one can just sit back and relax on the different open patios and terraces with a wine in hand and the vineyard as the picturesque backdrop. Aside from being a vineyard, Amsteltuin has also been made into a care centre for the disabled.
