What makes people fail when it comes to affiliate marketing
? In this article I'm listing some of the most common affiliate marketing mistakes that people make when it comes to promoting other people's products. Here we go:
1) The false start, or not starting at all
Once you have decided to do affiliate marketing, you need to act and actually do something. Depending on how you wish to promote the product you have chosen, you'll need to do certain tasks. For example get a squeeze or sales page set up. Join forums or blogs. Sign up to article directories. It helps if the product you have chosen has good back up, a ready made sales and squeeze page, and other items to help their affiliates.
2) Running too many projects/campaigns at the same time
Don't try and do too much! Become successful or fail completely with your first product first! Otherwise you can be pulled in so many different directions you never get off the ground!
3) Selecting the wrong niche products to promote
Is there a market and do they open their wallets? That's the question here. Make sure there is demand, and that it's a lucrative niche. Something that's not normally considered is what stage your prospects are at. Are you targeting customers that are just about to buy, or that are just generally searching the internet? You can use more specific keywords for the latter.
4) Doing everything yourself
I know, I know you're on a budget. You've got to do everything yourself. But is it really worth it? What's a decent hourly wage in a job? How much per hour would you like to be paid from your marketing? Let's say your current wage is $15 an hour. If the time it takes you to do a webpage or minisite works out at more then 3 hours, then outsource it, you can get these done for $30!
5) Thinking that affiliate marketing will get you rich quick
Ok, time for a horrible truth. Affiliate marketing is not an easy way to riches. You will have to work hard. The fact is - if you could see the figures of most affiliate marketers you would see that some make hundreds a month, a few make thousands, and a very few make millions.
6) Not investing in your education
You have to stand out and look professional. Also you need to market your affiliate products as effectively as possible. If you don't know how to do this, you must learn! Otherwise, you will mess up!
7) Getting discouraged to easily
Affiliate marketing takes time. You have to build your online presence and business. It gets easier, be strong and keep your spirits up. It's possible and you're the best! Repeat that everyday in front of a mirror (no joke - this works!) to keep your spirits up.
8) Information Overload!!
It's so easy in this business, there is internet marketing information offered for free all over the place. Once you've got a product on how to do affiliate marketing, then stick with it until its finished. More information will probably confuse you. I speak from experience!
9) Seeking Perfection
There's always something else you can do. Don't worry, many marketers are perfectionists. Just get it on the web anyway, or risk endless revisions and never getting anywhere!
10) No accountable friend
This is a really cool tip, and surprisingly effective. Organize weekly meetings with a colleague and justify all your business decisions to them. What have you done, exactly, this week? Keep a diary of daily events. What have you done with your time, and what activities were the most productive, or built your business the most?
