The Top 3 Most Amazing Things To See In China
China is a country rich with history
China is a country rich with history. Many of the attractions in China were created thousands of years ago. The population has exploded and the culture is very unique. China is about the same size, geographically, as the United States but has a population in excess of 1.3 billion, compared to the United States population of 310 million.
To many people, China is known for low-cost manufacturing, pollution and human rights violations. But, China is so much more than that. Regardless of what you think of the politics surrounding China, it's an amazing country with many spectacular sites to see.
The Great Wall of China
The Great Wall of China is an amazing site to see. Although many parts of the wall have been rebuilt, the Great Wall dates back to the 5th century BC. It was created to protect China from any groups or armies that attempted to invade China.
Although disjointed, the wall stretches for over 5,500 miles along the China landscape. Some of the wall is dilapidated and some is newly reconstructed. If you want to see the Great Wall, you can visit the wall at several different locations in Northern China. The sections of wall specifically reconstructed for tourists are crowded, but still great to see. If you want to see the Great Wall in its natural state, you also have that option.
Forbidden City
Forbidden City is a huge complex of elaborate buildings surrounded by a 26 foot high wall, located in Beijing, China. The complex was built over a period of 15 years, from 1406 to 1420. It was constructed for the Emperor Zhu Di and served as the seat of the Ming Dynasty until 1644.
The complex itself is massive. It's over 7,800,000 square feet and is made up of over 980 buildings. Everything about this place is grand; the courtyard, the doors, the wall. There are so many things to see that it can be difficult to see everything in one visit.
Terracotta Army
The Terracotta Army is located in Xi'an, China. It consists of life-size terracotta figures, including soldiers, horses, chariots, and more. The figures are buried surrounding the tomb of the First Emperor of China, Qin Shi Huang. The amazing story behind the Terracotta Army is that this underground world was created around the 2nd century B.C., but was not rediscovered until 1974, when local farmers made the discovery as they were digging a well.
It has been said that there is an entire city buried with the Emperor in his tomb. However, China officials have not opened the tomb. Many people believe that there is much more buried in the area that has yet to be discovered. The site of the Terracotta Army is open to the public, but is also an active archeological dig.
