As a computer technician, I felt it was best to provide some insight on the most

common spyware infections that I see harming my clients home computers. These spyware threats are not only infecting the majority of my clients, but also infecting PC's throughout the United States at a significant rate. This article will provide a brief explanation of what each spyware does to your system and will also include a solution for removing the infections from your PC.

The main three spyware threats that I will be providing information on include:

1. AntiVirus IS

2. Security Toolbar 7.1

3. Gator (also known as GAIN)

Lets start by first giving you some background on what exactly spyware is. Spyware is programming that is secretly installed on an individuals computer and collects information without the user knowing. These programs are created to hide in your PC program files and infiltrate you with pop-up advertisements and junk e-mail. The information that is collected varies from personal information to the surfing patterns of the websites that you have visited. Spyware infections can also cause more serious threats, including the stealing of personal information such as credit card numbers, passwords and financial information. Normally, spyware is passed on to advertisers or other 3rd parties that would be interested in your surfing behavior.

Now let's move on to the most common spyware that you need to be aware of. These are AntiVirus IS, Security Toolbar, and Gator.

1. AntiVirus IS - AntiVirus IS is a type of spyware that acts as legitimate security software, when is reality, it's spyware itself. A typical method of infection, would involve an end user thinking they are installing a video-codec, when in reality it is AntiVirus IS that is being installed. By AntiVirus IS being installed on your computer, the possibility of a computer hacker having access to your personal information including your banking details and passwords, increases significantly. This malware is becoming increasing well-known in the United States due to its harmful activity. If you've been infected with AntiVirus IS, this website will help you remove it.

2. Security Toolbar - Security Toolbar 7.1 is a current toolbar program that claims to remove spyware from your PC. It provides feedback to the end user that their computer is infected with spyware (even if it's not) and therefore entices the user into purchasing the program. Once installed, you will likely be overwhelmed with pop-ups when you are online. Security Toolbar can be very threatening to your personal information, therefore if you've been infected with program, you should take immediate action to remove it from your PC. To scan and remove Security Toolbar 7.1, click here.

3. Gator (Also known as GAIN)- Gator is a spyware program that will provide various graphic and display banners based on end user web surfing behavior. Typically, you'll find Gator is unknowingly downloaded in file sharing programs. If you've been infected by Gator, it's likely that you're PC's performance has been slowed down significantly. To remove Gator, I recommend using this PC security software as it's known as the industries best for removing Spyware ( Spyware Cease ).

It's surprising to think that spyware and adware infect over 97% of computers, yet few people take the time to learn more about these threats and how to avoid them. With that being said, I hope this article has been beneficial in providing you more information on today's top spyware threats. I will be providing more information going forward about other spyware, trojans, adware, and viruses for you to be aware of.
