The Top Seven Reasons For Selecting An Ereader

The eReader segment has really warmed up over the last 2 years

. According to a freshly released Harris poll, 28% of U.S. men and women currently own an eReader. Taking a look ahead an additional 13% expect to get one in the next 6 months; that's a total of 41% in Six months. So does this spell the end of the printed book? Although the volume of ebooks sold doubled last year to 20%, there was in fact just a minor drop in the number of physical books purchased within the same period of time. The truth is, people that own eReaders are still buying around an equal level of physical books they normally purchase. That is definitely the reality with me, even though I own a Kindle Touch (and adore it incidentally), I'm still buying physical books. You'll find nothing quite like the smell and feel of a brand new book.

So why did I decide to also get an eReader? Simple actually, there were just far too many compelling reasons not to. For an keen reader, the advantages an eReader gave me was simply too numerous to pass up, also I'm a slight technology freak as well. In this hub, I shall be listing the top Seven reasons I feel anyone who has ever had an interest or passion in reading should buy an eReader.

No.1 Storage

The 1st major reason for buying an eReader is the massive number of books it is able to store. If for example the very cheap eReaders can hold 100s of books, the better versions for example the Kindle, Nook or Sony ones holds thousands. This is particularly practical when going travelling or on holiday. As opposed to lugging half a dozen books which will eat up priceless luggage space, you can easily take one device that takes up the space of around a third of a paperback.

No.2 Free books

Few people today realise that any book published before 1923 costs nothing to download. The reason being the copyright only protects a book for a certain amount of time. What this means is that literally thousands of classic books are completely free to download. Books which include: War and Peace, Tom Sawyer, David Copperfield, Jane Ayre, just to mention a few can be yours for nothing. A lot of these books would set you back around $10 if you wanted to buy the physical copies of them. In reality I have saved enough money from downloading these free books, that it has more than covered the outlay of my Kindle.

No.3 Can change the font size

This is ideal for individuals that need large print to read. Any ebook's font size can automatically be increased at no extra cost. Then if someone else wants to use or borrow your eReader, the text is able to be changed back to normal size. You may also customize the font type to lots of different kinds.

No.4 Portability

eReaders are very thin (generally just 30% as thick as a regular paperback) and light making them incredibly compact. They can fit easily into bags, handbags and in some cases jackets or jean pockets.

No.5 Free Book Samples

Exactly how many individuals have been recommended a book from friends or family or have read great reviews in newspapers or the internet, to be really unsatisfied when you started reading it? It's not only the waste of money, but it is moreover the time and energy you put into reading the book. With most eReader stores such as Amazon's Kindle store and Barnes & Noble's Nook store you'll be able to download for free sample chapters of any books you like the look of. By doing this you can determine if the book is perfect for you before handing over any money.

No.6 Download a book almost instantly

Just finished reading a book and would like to buy another one? Possibly you have just completed the second book in a trilogy and are can't wait to discover the way it all concludes. But wait, the shops are closed and getting it online is going to take 2 days for the book to reach you. With eReaders you can look, examine then select a book just about anywhere and at anytime. Then simply download it to your device in usually less than a minute. How convenient is that?

No.7 Built in Dictionary, Thesaurus & Translator

Reading a passage and don't understand a word, or want to have that word translated straight into a further language, forget about having to look for a dictionary or thesaurus or your English to Spanish dictionary, you can do it all in real time on your eReader. Just highlight the word and you can now instantly know the meaning of that word, it's origin, several other related words or translate it directly into several different languages.
