However, Sir Alex Ferguson"s future retirement has hit the national paper headlines once again, leaving numerous Manchester United supporters to inquire about the potential of the club when he eventually decides to call it a day. According to his son Darren, Sir Alex will leave Manchester United at the end of the season. Ferguson has twice threatened to retire in recent campaigns although he has refused to rule out coaching into his seventies. He had ab initio planned to withdraw in 2005, only to decide he had a lot more to accomplish in the top flight.

Jose Mourinho has admitted that he would be available for the job and Rio Ferdinand has given him his open support. Jos Mourinho has previously stated that he wants to return to English football after being sacked by Chelsea in 2007 after only three years in charge. Not only does Jos Mourinho want to pen the next chapter of his coaching career in England, he also means to make it an extended stay. During his first two seasons in charge at Stamford Bridge, Mourinho certainly exposed the ability to form a winning team that played grand football, and although his team became agonizingly dull in the end, the often outspoken Mourinho is quite capable of winning in great fashion. Besides, his baroque approach is exactly what is required to instill confidence in the players.
