The big dog is one of the earliest domesticated animals
. These furry creatures became instant friends with humans. Man and dog becoming an inseparable part of human nature. In the royal courts, many of the Dukes, and those of high order owned large pets. Early on it became custom to purchase big dog apparel from international textile companies as a sign of status and hierarchy for their dog.
All dogs came of the wolf and its structure still resembles the bigger dogs of today. As far as dog apparel, big dogs became well known for their types of clothing worn on special occasions. Hunting with these large dogs became quite a tradition, in which the proper work clothes were required as part of their duties.
Man would have already discovered that he was dealing with an intelligent, social creature that he could relate to with ease. Dogs, like wolves, work together in major hunting undertakings, just as man and dog are undividable. It is a natural symbiosis, despite the common misconception that they can't get along and will become territorial.
It was traditionally part of the responsibility in owning a big dog to make sure it had the right dog apparel and clothes that marked its rank among the pack. Sometimes they dog attire was color coded to ensure the identification of the alpha male and the natural ranking order. It became essential when hunting with the large male or female dog to offer them the basics as far as ritual dog coverings and clothes. These often had to me made abroad from cheaper fabrics that could be sized to fit the larger pet that has different needs and bigger paws.
China became well known as a source to acquire these clothing items. Because they could pay a labor worker minimal wages, dog clothing was able to be made with little overhead. That meant that these coats for large dogs were made much more affordable to many dog owners at the time. Cheaper clothes were manufactured solely with the large doggie in mind.
Hunting with the dog became a very complex and sometimes extremely dangerous event. The prey they were chasing could kick and fight back causing miscellaneous injuries and wounds to the dog. This is really when protective type clothing came into play, so the large canine could resist the impact of bites or deep scratches. In their wolf incarnation our pets and companions had to remain alert to opportunity if they were to survive as hunters.
One of the very first animals preyed upon by dogs and their master's was the bison. Then the royalty of Europe later moved into hunting small game like deer, elk and even birds. Many dogs depended on their ears to guide them to their prey and sometimes special dog coats were made to help increase hearing and provide greater skill.
Big dog apparel was given great attention by the wealthy dog owners. Over the years ties with the Chinese grew stronger and affordable clothing became quite the trend in Europe among hunters and their big pets.
