The Transition To High Definition

With the ever changing technology trends it is so hard to keep up with it or even try and decide between models when it comes to electronic

. So what to do when it comes to choosing a new television set?

There's HDTV, LCD, Plasma and there's others. What is the difference between HDTV, LCD and Plasma. What do they mean and most important which one is the best to get?

To start off let me clarify something HD or high definition can apply to other electronics aside from televisions. HD means that the product has higher resolution and therefore it is capable of having a bigger clearer picture, superior sound quality and progressive scanning.

HD technology in the past used analog signal broadcasting and recently has been moved to digital broadcasting. While this can be confusing, just remember that all your favorite channels are or will using HD technology.

Plasma TV's are flat paneled made out of glass. In plasma TV's ,different types of gases are placed between two panels of glass to make the set work.

So why would you want to own a Plasma TV. Plasma TV's have a wider viewing angle. They can provide better more accurate colored image, which makes it possible to have great contrast and show true blacks.

This makes it so that Plasma TV's can offer spectacular picture quality. In addition, Plasma TV's are perfect to be equipped with HD technology given that their quick response time and refresh rate makes it easier to show faster moving objects without having a blurry image. However, not all Plasma TV's are equipped with HD technology, so be careful when you shop around.

LCD TV's, work a little different from Plasma TV's. LCD TV's operate by using liquid-crystal. This technology is used on other electronics such as cell phones, laptops and hand held video game consoles.

There are advantages to owning LCD TV's such as they are thinner than Plasma TV's and can be built in any size where Plasma TV's can only be found in 32 inch or bigger.

However there are greater disadvantages to owning a LCD TV. LCD TV's tend to have poor contrast, which can be more notable when viewing a dark scene. Their fragility cause problems, if a pixel on the screen breaks it appears as if the TV is always on.

In addition, LCD TV's can not keep up with many of the fast moving images causing them to have blurry images. The new smooth motion 240hz sets have great motion now and can keep up with the speed of sports, etc. But plasma is still a smoother picture.

Finally, become an informed shopper by shopping around. While LCD TV's can be found in any size, Plasma TV's tend to have a better picture overall. HD technology is here to stay. Currently we are in the transition phase between the old analogy technology but soon there will only be HD.

For this reason I recommend that if you are going to spend your money on purchasing a new television, that you spend it wisely and buy a Plasma HDTV a combination that will give the best quality and value for your buck.
