This paint is made out of bitumen, a substance that is well-known to be waterproof. This black substance is commonly used on roofs and boats, to prevent the water from leaking into the house or the boat. In the form of paint, it is effective as a protective layer from moisture. It protects dampness from getting to the painted areas. However, it is questionable as to whether this paint should be called damp treatment paint.

There are people who use it when they have rising damps in their homes, but they tend to be surprised to find that this is not an effective way to counter the problem as this only forces the damp to move elsewhere that has not been treated. In fact, if you only paint a portion of the wall at the bottom, this will force the moisture from inside to push its way through the walls capillaries to the top, above the treated area so that it can break free.

Overall, this paint is better as a damp-proofing paint, to prevent dampness from the surrounding environment from leaking into certain areas of the walls and rotting its structure. Since this substance can flake, apply a cement mortar coat over it and you are good to go.
