The Truth About Internet Marketing - Part III
By now, if you've read Parts I and II you understand that I am a proponent of Internet Marketing but I also need to speak the truth
. Each and every part of the process takes a great deal of time, sweat and expense and just isn't a 'piece of cake' as expressed by so many of the so-called gurus trying to get you to waste your cherished time and money on their latest and greatest product. Now that I've restated my position, I wanted to touch base today on the design of your website and some of the mistakes you need to avoid.First, let's talk a bit about design. Since this website will be the face of your business, it needs to represent who and what you are, what your business is all about and contain all of the elements necessary for your particular niche. There are several different types of websites you can create such as:1. A Brochure Type - similar to those used by many professionals such as chiropractors, physicians and dentists.2. A Grocery Store Type - Similar to Amazon and Best Buy where you are there to basic shop for a product.3. A Sales Type of Affiliate Marketing - this type often times contains different elements such as squeeze pages which we will discuss in Part IV.4. A combination of the above.Once you've decided upon the type of website you'd like to create, oftentimes this will be determined by your target market, it is important for you to avoid the following errors:1. Be sure that when you decide to contract a web designer, that you personally own the domain name. This can protect you should you decide to change designers.2. Similarly, make sure that you obtain your website's code on a periodic basis so that if you change designers, and that is not all that uncommon, you don't have to start from the beginning with the new designer.3. Check references. We all know that you never give out a bad reference but it is still worthwhile checking references and in particular, how long that reference has been with the designer.4. Never us a designer with very limited experience. You will regret it when things start to grow and your site cannot grow with your business.5. Talking about growth, make sure your site is expandable should your business grow. This is certainly not a total discussion about web design but don't worry, you can find out a whole bunch more at Newbie Rewards.
