The Twilight Saga: How Many Books And Movies Will There Be?

The movie industry has seen a multitude of film sagas in recent decades

. Hollywood finds many sources for its films in literature. The Twilight Saga movies are a perfect example of this. A good book can lead to a successful motion picture version of the story.

The Twilight Saga is the latest film franchise to have the spotlight. On 30th June, Summit Entertainment will release its next film, Eclipse, in this series. One of the questions circling among fans on the Internet is whether or not the final book of the series, Breaking Dawn, will be broken up into at least two films.

Some big movie studios are dividing popular fiction novels into more than one film. The Harry Potter series is another recent example of this. Quite possibly the most profitable movie franchise ever adapted from literature, the remaining Harry Potter novel is scheduled to be released as two films.

There are plenty of characters and subplots in the Twilight novels that Hollywood could potentially develop into successful films and even new franchises. It's possible that the franchise's many loyal fans might be interested in seeing more films based on smaller plots within the novels.

Stephanie Meyer has written several books that take a look at other characters from the books in greater detail. Studio executives might find that Twilight fans have enough desire to see more films based on these additional books.

According to statistics, the biggest percentage of people that go to the movies are teenagers. Similar to the Harry Potter books, the Twilight novels focus on young people in its narrative. The protagonist is a young girl who struggles with teenage problems. Hollywood is well aware of this. By translating these novels into big epic movies, the movie industry can potentially capitalize on the link its largest customer base has with the characters.

There are many film franchises in Hollywood. Not all of them are based on literature. Star Trek is one of the longest running film franchises ever. Most recently, Hollywood produced a prequel to the first film that examines some of the main characters in the series when they were much younger. Some might argue that this is another growing trend in Hollywood. The idea is that rebooting a dying franchise can be profitable. The recent reboot of Star Trek turned out to be profitable and gained a lot of critical success as well.

As a business, a movie studio is faced with solving the problem of how to increase profits and create future business for the company. Currently, the Twilight movies that have come out have proved successful business decisions. Regardless of whether or not the last films being produced are successful, the novels have many other characters and subplots Hollywood can turn into epic movies.

The number of fans on the internet is getting higher and higher. The popular saga already has it's own convention which travels all over the country promoting the Twilight novels and allowing fans the opportunity to participate in more Twilight-related activities. It may be too soon for Ms. Meyer and Hollywood to determine how many Twilight movies is enough.
