The Myers Briggs Type Indicator is not a test, it is described as an indicator and they claim that type is a shorthand way of describing four sets of mental processes. personality career tests Isabel Myers spent her life identifying preferences, sometimes referred to as processes and attitudes. The Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is exactly what it says it is -an indicator. Its purpose is to indicate what attitudes and preferences each particular person uses. We applaud them for that but unfortunately the industry has got a hold of it, as has the British Psychological Society, where everything appears to be done to prevent ordinary people from using it. The grid is very helpful in identifying each type however it was never meant to be shorthand for describing people.

The system was produced as shorthand to enable people to understand differences and relate better as a result. The Myers Briggs Type Indicator grid is a table where each of the sixteen types is captured. The table lists Introvert, Extraverted, Sensing, Intuitive, Feeling and Thinking, Perceptive and Judging various types and their combinations. It is the combination of the attitudes of extraversion and introversion together with the preferences that produce each type. Myers Briggs Type Indicator also uses Judging and Perception and it is the addition of this dimension that takes them from the original eight Jungian types to the sixteen Myers Briggs types.
