The United States Is Preparing Plans To Strike Terrorists In Pakistan

Terrorists frequently strike at US targets in Afghanistan and fade back across the border into Pakistan where the United States cant pursue them

. The number of terror attacks conducted in this manner has greatly increased since this tactic works well for the terrorists. The border region between these two countries is extremely difficult terrain to negotiate which makes it difficult for US and NATO forces to follow. The mountainous regions have many places for the enemy combatants to hide which makes looking for them very slow going.

The United States and NATO have to depend on the Pakistani government to help them combat the terrorists who use Pakistan as a staging area but the Pakistani government has had a difficult time doing so for the reasons mentioned above and several more. For one the Pakistanis have had to save face with the other Arab nations in the region. Anti US sentiment is high in the region and the pressure is on Pakistan to not cooperate with the US. This pressure is applied both internally by Taliban leaders within Pakistan and externally by the Nations surrounding it.

The Pakistanis have openly had a lukewarm stance to fighting the terrorists within their borders but secretly they probably want them to be eradicated. The reason for this is that Taliban forces have conducted a number of terror attacks within Pakistan which have been disruptive to operations. They have begun to conduct their own operations against terrorists who operate within their borders but these operations have not done a whole lot of good.

The bigger problem that the United States is facing from these terrorists now is that attacks which have taken place within the US have been staged from Pakistan. There is also evidence that Terrorists elements within Pakistan have funded several of these attacks, although most have been botched by the attackers.

The goal of any actions from the United States would be to punish terror organizations and to disrupt their operations by selectively taking out their leadership. We have had good success in doing so by utilizing military drones to strike at targets in Pakistan. The advantage of drone attacks is that you dont have the logistical nightmare associated with sending in manpower. Drones are also more effective at surveillance of the large land area which terrorists use to hide in. They can cover much larger areas and are very difficult to detect when used correctly.

The US has provided the Pakistani government with much of the intelligence which it has used to conduct its own offensives, but I have the feeling that Washington is not quite satisfied with the way that much of the intelligence has been handled.

Since the Pakistanis have not been very effective with dealing with terrorists using that country as a base of operations we may have to conduct military operations in Pakistan to put a stop to it.

I dont think that any operations that we conduct in that country will require a large scale movement of troops. I believe that drones, along with air and missile strikes will be the primary methods used. We will certainly have to use some of our Special Operations Troops, but I dont think that they will be involved in major operations. They will probably be used more to conduct raids, ambushes, observation of fires and surveillance operations. We definitely want to maintain a low profile when conducting operations in Afghanistan. We dont have a lot of spare manpower for one thing, and we dont need the notoriety associated with a large scale operation

If the Pakistanis dont show that they have the will to deal with this problem we will have to. The bottom line is that we cant allow terrorist attacks to originate in Pakistan which endanger American lives in this country. Military Ring Express
