The Use Of Double Opt-in In Email Marketing

Expanding business has become easier at the start of internet marketing revolution

. But business on line has now become a challenge though. The reason for this is that people are now cautious in revealing their personal information because of not good experiences in the past. Apart from getting lots of spam and useless emails, they also tend to risk their identities. Building and keeping up trust has become an important factor for the success of an email marketing.

Two Ways of Opting-In

While people certainly look more favorably on opt-in emails compared to spam, many may still consider it a nuisance due to the frequency of its distribution. Internet marketers should also send out only newsletters that contain significant information or interesting offers. But probably the secret to its success is to make sure that your newsletter is sent only to those who are genuinely interested in your product, service, or information.

Bear in mind that opt-ins are divided into two categories and these are Single Opt-In and Double Opt-In. In a single opt-in, the subscribers only need to enter their email address and press "submit" to be subscribed. This is absolutely an easy and comfortable method on the subscriber's part. The problem is, some people actually opt-in their friends or colleagues. They may consider that their friends will be interested in your offers too. Unfortunately, it isn't always like that so your brand suffers as a result. Certain individuals also make typographical errors.

A better way out is the Double Opt-In feature. Most internet marketers of today are now using this method. Basically, the subscriber is required to confirm his subscription by clicking on the link in the first email sent to him. This makes sure that only interested individuals will really receive your newsletters personally.

Being Wary of Subscription Spammers

While on the subject of spam, it is also important to be aware of subscription spamming. There are malicious people who have actually developed "bots" that do nothing but subscribe fake names and email addresses to your list. Those who are using single opt-in systems are usually the victims.

Many email marketers today are using two ways to stop this trend. One is the CAPTCHA tool that requires every subscriber to copy camouflaged numbers and letters into a box. The double opt-in system is the other method that entails the person to confirm their subscription first. Given all these considerations, it is not surprising that all major marketers are using the double opt-in system today.
