The Use Of Majestic Color Purple When Painting Fine Art

There are three primary colors, red, yellow and blue plus there are three secondary colors

, orange, green and purple. The color yellow is complimentary to the colors purple or violet and that appears on the artist's color wheel. An example of how well yellow and purple go together is when they are used during Easter.

Two primary colors make one secondary color and to make purple you mix red with blue. The amount of blue or the amount of red used in the mixture will determine the value of the purple. For example when extra red is added the purple leans more towards a reddish color and when extra blue is added the purple appears closer to the color blue.

The Spirituality of the color purple or violet and its psychology:

When the color purple in any form appears in paintings the feelings it evokes will vary. If the purple is on the blue side it is cooler and presents a feeling of being staunch or old fashioned. Deep purple has always been considered regal or luxurious especially when it is on the reddish side of purple. So a blue purple is colder than a red purple.

Purple, especially when it leans towards the violet side of the spectrum gives off a very gentle feeling and for this reason it has been known as a feminine color. But then rich royal men would wear purple they considered it an upper class color. In present day the color purple has been associated with the gay pride community and of course there is the Purple Heart medal awarded to men who were considered the bravest amongst the military community. Spiritually speaking violet or purple is thought to represent the spirituality within man.

Forming the color purple:

To create the color you like the technique has always been to mix the basic components in small quantities and stop once you have your desired color. By keeping a record of the exact amount of color in each mixture artists have a recipe book so that they can create large quantities of the colors they want.

By adding some yellow to your purple base different shades of purple will be made that is because yellow is the complimentary color of purple. By adjusting a little purple to a lot of yellow you can alter the type of violet colors you get and violet is a triad color.
