The Usefulness Of Plastics Injection Molding Services
Most plastic projects that we see and use today are a result of the plastics injection molding process
. This particular process entails heating plastic granules to a semi-solid form and force injecting this molten plastic into a mold of the desired shape. For instance, if one needs to make small plastic beads, the molten plastic would be injected into round, hollow molds. The plastic then takes the shape of the mold, and is allowed to cool for some time. As it cools, it also hardens. This is when the injection molded component is removed from the mold. This process could be repeated for hundreds of different products.
When it comes to smaller components such as plastic connectors, hundreds of components can be molded at a time. But larger components such as inner panels for automobiles or aircrafts would probably be molded one at a time.
Plastic injection molding in the electronics industry
This process is widely used in the manufacture of electronic products. For instance, the cover panel of a mobile phone is usually made using the injection molding process. Similarly, other components such as adapter bodies, cables assemblies and wires, plastic panels etc are all made using the plastic molding process.
There are a number of different materials that can be used for this purpose. For instance, most manufacturing firms use polyamide, polypropylene, polycarbonate, ABS, TPE and other plastics for plastics injection molding. These processes could be carried out on a small scale or large scale. Sometimes, text or graphics need to be molded on the surface of the component. This can also be achieved by inserting metal plates during the molding process.
A variety of surface finishes
A firm that has several years of experience in manufacturing injection molded products such as cable assemblies can offer you components with a myriad of surface finishes. And, there might be some products that dont need a cosmetically enhanced surface finish. Here are some commonly used surface finishes after the plastics injection molding process:
Blasting: Dry and wet blasting can be achieved with the use of ceramic or glass beads, aluminum oxide, steel grit, and so on.
Stone finish: This finish is preferred when one doesnt need a very cosmetic look. Most widely used for functional parts as it gives a smooth finish that looks aesthetically pleasing.
Diamond polish: If the surface is going to be visible to users all the time, and you wish to achieve a strong visual impact, a diamond polish is highly recommended. Some cable assemblies feature such a finish.
Painted finish: Paint can be used for lending a plain or textured finish to a product manufactured using the plastics injection molding method. It protects the surface from scratches and chipping.
In addition to injection molding services, firms engaged in contract manufacturing also offer PCB assembly services. With our growing dependence on electronics, there is a massive demand for PCB assembly services.
