Diamonds are one of the most sought after stones around the world and they are naturally formed from materials on Earth

. Well known for their beauty and strength, diamonds come to the surface through deep volcanic eruptions by magma when it comes up from the Earths surface. The magma brings the rare diamonds to the surface and, you know diamonds can be found in the area if you spot magma cooled down which forms as a rock known as Kimberlite or Lamproite.

Each year approximately 130,000,000 carats of diamonds are mined which has a total value of US$9 Billion. Many of these diamonds are used for designer jewellery and originate from central and southern Africa but, they have been discovered in Canada, India, Russia, Brazil and Australia. Each diamond supply chain is controlled by a number of powerful businesses and is highly concentrated in a small number of locations around the world.

A film was made about the struggles of the diamond industry and the conflicts it causes between the government soldiers and the rebel forces. Blood Diamond was created in 2006 starring Leonardo DiCaprio and the title Blood Diamonds refers to the diamonds that are mined in African war zones. The film received mixed reviews but mainly people viewed the film as fresh as it gave them great insight into the diamond industry and the ongoing conflicts in Africa.

Due to the rarity of diamonds in the industry today they dont come at a cheap price and the bigger the diamond you want the deeper you have to dig in your pocket to be able to purchase the diamonds and designer jewellery. Many celebrities are known for their extravagant jewellery and are known to splurge on designer jewellery as though they are buying their weekly food shop. Celebrities such as Beyonce, Jay Z, Kim Kardashian, Mariah Carey and Victoria Beckham are on the top lists of a-list celebs who love designer jewellery covered with giant diamonds.

One of the most well known Hollywood icons of the world is Elizabeth Taylor who was known to have a large appetite for womens designer jewellery gifts and she even received a 69.42 carat diamond ring in 1972 for her 40th birthday off her then husband Richard Burton. This diamond was named the first million dollar diamond and once the pair divorced Richard auctioned the ring off for $5 million and used the money to build a hospital in Botswana.

A diamond is the most expensive gemstone on the market and although you pay a lot of money for them they arent designed to be bought as an investment tool but instead they are designed to be worn. Womens designer jewellery ensures a lot of their creations are covered in diamonds mainly because it is a known fact that diamonds are a girls best friend meaning they make a great gift for many occasions from birthdays to engagements.
