The Value of Facebook Fans- Are Likes as Valuable as Site Registrations

?

Like most modern, tech-savvy businesses we have a Facebook page that complements our marketing and communications strategy. If you run an oline business you want to drive people to your website but having a neat, attractive and optimally structured website that is also displaying the most current and up to date content straight away to the users is not always straight forward. That is why we are very much reliant on our e-mail and Facebook communications to keep consumers up to date on our latest news (in our case the latest lunch deals Cork or Dublin have to offer or any new places for lunch in Dublin or Cork now displaying on site). In terms of a user base, it is straightaway obvious to anyone who comes to your Facebook page how many people are fans of the page (this can be both a good and bad thing). If you are promoting the fact that you have a huge consumer following then the number of fans is a reliable indication of these claims.

A second reason to concentrate of building your Facebook following is obviously the increasing roll it is playing in peoples everyday lives, with its usage, in terms of average minutes of the day people spend on site, increasing all the time, particularly with people using it on smartphones & ipads. People are checking it far more frequently than they would e-mails too, and more importantly being instantly fed content as opposed to having to open an e-mail. They can share content (in our case our posts about what new lunch Cork has to offer etc.) easily and are influenced by wht their friends are "Liking". All this stacks up well against a strategy solely focussed on obtaining e-mail addresses. With the userbase of our site, mylunch.ie, being predominantly office workers their access to facebook during work hours would still be limited so e-mail database expansion remains an important part of our business strategy, but the business potential from increased fanpage likes is one to be taken very seriously when looking at ways to gain a greater consumer following.
