Styles in Martial Arts differ from region to region

. Each Martial Arts style has its own set of tricks and techniques. If one style aims more at harnessing the power of the upper limbs another aims more at developing the power of the lower limbs. But, ultimately, all styles aim at achieving total physical development and mastery over the use of ones mental and physical energy.

Martial Arts Styles are broadly classified into three based on the emphasis on techniques used. They are: Strikes, Grappling and Weaponry. While some styles involve light and medium contact some involve full contact. With the advancement of Martial Arts as items of sports in the modern world, new sets of rules and regulations as to performance have evolved.

Martial Arts have perhaps their origins in prehistoric times. Over the centuries, different styles got developed and settled in different regions of the globe. The list of styles is an exhaustive one. Some of the most well-known styles are: Judo, Karate, Kung Fu, Jiu Jitsu, Tae Kwon do, Kick Boxing, Catch Wrestling and Fensing. Over the last few centuries there has been a tendency among people to learn the martial arts of even countries other than their own. As such the bridge between the east and west has narrowed considerably. Today we find Asian Martial Arts popular in Europe and America. Similarly styles from those continents have been widely accepted in the Eastern countries.

Choosing a Martial Arts style involves understanding your needs, abilities and tastes. Also the availability of good masters within your reach should be taken into consideration. Dont go in for a style just because your buddy has taken up that. Whichever Martial Arts style you think you can enjoy well and be comfortable with is and should be accepted as your style.
